Dr Umar al-Qadri Part of Problem

Shaykh Dr. Umar Al-Qadri can run. You can hide. You can delete your posts.

You will never erase the fact that you issued hateful slurs against Christians, Jews, and the LGBTQIA community. We know. We saw what you said in your post. That you feel ashamed enough to either delete it or make it private whilst continuing to play innocent and "reach out" to the LGBTQIA community realllly says something about you.

You are not doing anything new or helpful for us. You are a bigot. You are a huge part of the reason that we Queer Muslims struggle so much with self-loathing that we suffer psychologically, that we turn to violence, that we lash out at others and even our own selves. You are part of the problem. Our blood is on your hateful hands.

Let's Talk about Slavery

There are people alive today who spoke with formerly enslaved Black People. They saw their scars. This thing is not buried in our past. It is recent memory, lived memory; and it need to be talked about and reckoned with.

SCOTUS, Immigration, and Book-Reading

Obama is the President. The Presidency is part of the Executive Branch of the government. The Executive Branch determines how laws will be enforced.

In determining the strength of focus on enforcing immigration laws here in the States, President Obama acted as an Executive, determining how laws will be enforced.

He did not create new laws.

That SCOTUS ruling, and the sentiment cheering it on, is part of what happens when you failed to read your government textbook back in high school. Books. Read them. They're good for your brain.

Sit Down and Listen to Lewis

Dear America:
When John Lewis speaks, you sit down, close your mouth, and LISTEN.

Sincerely,
-Freedom

PS: I say this understanding the caveat that the laws being defended here criminalise Muslims. We must do better.

How Can I Condemn

"How Can I Condemn"
A Queer Muslim poem after the #PulseNightClub shooting in #Orlando.

excerpts:
How can I condemn,
when I am running from them,
when I am running from you.

How can I condemn,
when you see part of me,
when you ignore most of me.

A "Not an Angel" for New York Times

Just as a reminder, the New York Times referred to murdered civilian Michael Brown as "not an angel" - an epithet which they did not use use even on a later-convicted mass murderer racist, who apparently had a "troubled past." Rapist's mug shot obtained from Jezebel: http://jezebel.com/heres-a-mugshot-from-the-night-of-brock-turners-actual-1780935025.
